Common issues with Zenboard and how to resolve them.
App Won’t Open
”Zenboard can’t be opened because Apple cannot verify it for malicious software”
This is a macOS Gatekeeper warning, not an error. Follow the steps in First Launch to allow the app.
App crashes immediately after launch
- Quit Zenboard completely
Cmd + Q - Open Activity Monitor and force quit any remaining Zenboard processes
- Delete
~/Library/Application Support/Zenboardto reset app data - Relaunch Zenboard
Canvas Issues
Items disappeared from the canvas
- Press
Spaceto fit all items to the screen. They may have been moved off-screen. - If you have multiple canvases, make sure you have the correct one selected.
Canvas is laggy or slow
- Zoom in to reduce the number of items visible on screen
- Close other resource-intensive apps
- Restart Zenboard
Notch Tray
Notch Tray not showing up
- Make sure you’re using a MacBook Pro with a notch (M1 Pro/Max or later)
- Check that the interface style is set to Notch Tray in Settings → General
- Try toggling the setting off and back on
Ghost Mode not working
- Verify that Ghost Mode is enabled:
Cmd + Shift + Gor check the menu bar icon - Some apps (screen savers, full-screen games, etc.) may block click passthrough
Updates
Update check failed
- Check your internet connection
- Try manually via Menu bar icon → Check for Updates
- Download the latest version directly from zenboard.app/download
