Troubleshooting

Common issues with Zenboard and how to resolve them.

App Won’t Open

”Zenboard can’t be opened because Apple cannot verify it for malicious software”

This is a macOS Gatekeeper warning, not an error. Follow the steps in First Launch to allow the app.

App crashes immediately after launch

  1. Quit Zenboard completely Cmd + Q
  2. Open Activity Monitor and force quit any remaining Zenboard processes
  3. Delete ~/Library/Application Support/Zenboard to reset app data
  4. Relaunch Zenboard

Canvas Issues

Items disappeared from the canvas

  • Press Space to fit all items to the screen. They may have been moved off-screen.
  • If you have multiple canvases, make sure you have the correct one selected.

Canvas is laggy or slow

  • Zoom in to reduce the number of items visible on screen
  • Close other resource-intensive apps
  • Restart Zenboard

Notch Tray

Notch Tray not showing up

  • Make sure you’re using a MacBook Pro with a notch (M1 Pro/Max or later)
  • Check that the interface style is set to Notch Tray in Settings → General
  • Try toggling the setting off and back on

Ghost Mode not working

  • Verify that Ghost Mode is enabled: Cmd + Shift + G or check the menu bar icon
  • Some apps (screen savers, full-screen games, etc.) may block click passthrough
