Settings

Click the gear icon in the toolbar or press Cmd + , to access Settings.

Zenboard groups preferences into several tabs so you can quickly find app behavior, shortcuts, permissions, storage, and update controls.

Basic

The Basic tab contains day-to-day app preferences.

Controls

The Controls tab contains shortcut-related settings.

Global ShortcutsCustomize app-wide shortcuts such as Canvas, Ghost Mode, Screen Capture, and Pick Color
Local Shortcut ReferenceReview shortcuts for Sidebar, Smart Viewer, and Canvas interactions

Permissions

The Permissions tab helps you verify whether Zenboard can save captures where you expect.

OptionDescription
Files and FoldersShows whether Zenboard can access monitored save locations
Capture Save Location StatusHelps diagnose when a chosen save folder is no longer writable
Open SettingsJumps to the relevant macOS or in-app settings area when attention is needed

If screen capture or folder saving is not working as expected, this tab should be your first stop.

Data

The Data tab controls where Zenboard stores files and whether backup behavior is enabled.

BackupsControl whether backup behavior is enabled for saved work

Updates

Zenboard uses Sparkle for automatic updates.

Automatically Check for UpdatesEnabled by default
Check for Updates NowManually trigger an update check from Settings or the menu bar

Reset All Settings

Use Reset All in the Info tab to restore Zenboard settings back to their default values.

This includes:

  • app appearance and window behavior
  • capture-related preferences
  • global shortcuts, including Pick Color
  • sidebar and dock layout preferences
