Color Picker

Zenboard includes a global color picker so you can sample colors from anywhere on screen and turn them into reusable palette references.

Start the Color Picker

Use either of these entry points:

  • press Cmd + Shift + Z
  • choose Pick Color from the menu bar icon

The picker works even when Zenboard is not the focused app.

What You Can Do

With the color picker, you can:

  • sample a single color from any app or website
  • accumulate multiple sampled colors into one set
  • copy a picked value
  • save the result as a palette card

This is useful when building UI palettes, collecting inspiration from the web, or isolating colors from reference art.

Single Color Workflow

  1. start the color picker
  2. move the cursor over the desired color
  3. click to sample it
  4. save it as a new palette card

Multi-Color Workflow

You can keep sampling additional colors before saving.

This lets you build a palette from:

  • an interface screenshot
  • a poster or illustration
  • a set of references spread across different apps

Relationship to Screen Capture

Use Color Picker when you only need the color values.

Use Screen Capture when you need the full image, and use Palette Extraction when you want Zenboard to derive a palette from an image card afterward.

Result

After saving, the sampled colors become a Palette Card that you can:

  • keep in the sidebar
  • place on the canvas
  • inspect in Smart Viewer
  • copy later in HEX, RGB, or HSL
